you’ve got questions? we’ve got bacon...and answers

  • Why are you called glascad if you aren’t a CAD application?
We like to think of glascad as CAD evolved. That is, the end result of using glascad is the generation of glass & glazing shop drawings. To that end, the computer aids in the drafting and/or design of the end product. Evolved, because like any system, its most perfected manifestation is when the system is invisible to the user. Glascad is CAD beneath the hood. It is a sophisticated database-driven application whose complexity is obfuscated from the user.

  • Do you have plans to support tablets?
Tablets support is very important to the glascad mission. We want to revolutionize how work is done in the architectural and construction industries that have a reliance on paper-based output. We envision glascad shop drawings being utilized in fabrication shops and constrution sites on hardened tablets and laptops using touch-based and pen-based interfaces. This requires a lot of testing to make sure that we nail the user-experience and will take all the necessary time to make sure we get it right.
  • Do you have plans to support 3D elevation construction?
Absolutely. We felt that 2D was sufficient to bring our product to market, especially since the earlier versions of our appication will product storefront elevations only. However, as we move into the curtain-wall realm we see an opportunity to incorporate 3D for engineering and visualization purposes in addition to outputing to .DWG and .RVT for ingestion by AutoCAD and Revit. 3D also has the added benefit of building “mocks” for architectural approval.
